After Labour and Plaid introduced top-up fees, the cuts in funding will make many students angry

Commenting on the claims by Les Ebdon, Vice Chancellor of Bedford University that applications for University places across the UK were surging by as much as 20% as a result of the recession, Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Education Minister, Jenny Randerson AM said:
"It is clearly idiocy to cut higher education funding at a time when many more people are seeing it as an alternative to jobs which just aren't there anymore. The Labour-Plaid Government's devastating cuts which our students and universities are now facing will make the recession worse.
"We need a fair economy and this can only be created by investing in skills and people, not ripping the rug from under them as Labour and Plaid are doing.
"Through our alternative budget, the Welsh Lib Dems showed that these cuts are not necessary and not fair."
