The plan would see unprecdented investment in Cardiff's libraries

Welsh Lib Dem Assembly Member for Cardiff Central Jenny Randerson AM has slammed 'interference' by Wrexham AM, Lesley Griffiths in Cardiff Council's attempts to invest heavily in the library network in the city.
Jenny Randerson has tabled an amendment to Ms Griffiths' Statement of Opinion, calling on her to stop attempting to sabotage the plan that will see unprecedented investment in libraries in some of the capital's poorest areas through the sale of stored books.
Jenny Randerson said: "I am astounded that a politician from so far away is trying to call the shots in Cardiff. This action is completely illustrative of the view amongst a few politicians that heritage and leisure should be for the privileged few, rather than the many. She is clearly more concerned about politics than people.
"The sale of these books was never going to be a decision taken lightly, but the money raised will be ploughed back in to Cardiff's library service, in order to make our citizens lives better. Cardiff Council has to balance budgets like everyone else. They have a legal responsibility to provide decent library services and I'm pleased they are going beyond that and investing in what I am sure will become the best library service in Wales. Without the sale of these books, they could not afford to do that, particularly with the below inflation local government settlement announced yesterday by the Labour Government.
"Lesley should concentrate on standing up for her constituents, many of whom are feeling the pinch because of her party's mishandling of the economy. It's a shame that of the four Statements of Opinion that she has raised this year, as many have been about Cardiff as have been about Wrexham!"

Jenny Randerson has tabled the following amendment to Ms Griffiths' Statement of Opinion:
Delete all after 'This Assembly' and replace with:
"Believes that Wrexham politicians should stop trying to prevent Cardiff Council investing in library facilities in some of the city's poorest areas and believes that such attempts are illustrative of the disgraceful view that Welsh heritage should be for the few rather than the masses"
