Annual doctor assesments - Randerson comment

11.44.02am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 23rd Jul 2008

Following the announcement that all UK doctors will face an annual assessment, Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, Jenny Randerson AM has given the announcement a cautious welcome.

Jenny Randerson said: "Continuous professional development is always to be welcomed, as is anything that contributes towards building patient's trust in the health service. I hope that the UK Government will provide genuinely new money to roll out this programme and not rely on already overstretched NHS budgets, both in England and Wales, to pay for it. I will be seeking clarification on how such a system would apply in Wales and more importantly, where the money will come from to implement it here."
