10.07.22am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 16th Jul 2008

Commenting on the release of the Steers Report into Neurosurgery in North Wales and the announcement that patients will be able to continue to access services at Liverpool Walton hospital, Welsh Lib Dem Health Spokesperson for Health, Jenny Randerson AM said:

"Hopefully this will put an end to the crisis of confidence caused by the Minister's previous indication that patients would have to travel to South Wales to access surgery. I welcome the fact that the Minister has backed down on this. The big question now is how the Minister will pay for these improved services in North Wales. The costed implementation plan will hopefully provide these difficult calculations.

"There are continuing questions over the future of services in South Wales which will need answering by the second part of this report.
