Commenting on the release of a recommendations on improving hospital cleanliness, Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson for Health, Jenny Randerson AM said:
"This is a report that has been needed for a long time. The recommendations are based on clinical views on how to embed a culture of cleanliness within the NHS and I obviously welcome that. There are still issues regarding bed occupancy, but coupled with announcements on uniforms made earlier this week, this could be the beginning of a change in culture in the Welsh NHS.
Putting Ward Sisters back in charge of the ward, and ensuring that everyone recognises this, will not only mean better cleanliness but will hopefully ensure a range of improvements to the patient experience.
I welcome the recommendations on single sex wards which will hopefully put an end to the scandalous lack of dignity that some patients suffer when in hospital. Nutritional improvements are also most welcome. All these recommendations, if acted upon by the Minister, will finally deal with some of the most prevalent problems in our health service. Its better late than never."
