Randerson receives massive correspondence on Wet AMD!9.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 24th Jun 2008
Welsh Lib Dem Spokesperson for Health and AM for Cardiff Central, Jenny Randerson today received over 300 letters from people in her constituency ahead of Wednesday's debate on the treatment of Wet Age Related Macular Degeneration, a condition that affects 1000 people per year in Wales, resulting in blindness for many sufferers. A Welsh Liberal Democrat amendment to the motion on Wednesday will call on the Government to fund treatment for patients in both eyes. Currently, many patients are only treated after losing sight in one eye. The letters about the debate came from supporters of Cardiff Institute for the Blind and were delivered to Jenny Randerson by Kate Hughes of RNIB Cymru. Jenny Randerson said: "the amount of correspondence that I received today goes to show just how many people are affected by Wet AMD. I hope that the debate on Wednesday will clear the way for treatment for all sufferers at an early stage. If our amendment is passed, it will mean people no longer have to go blind in one eye before they are considered for treatment." "All the people who wrote to me can be assured they always have, and continue to have my full support in this matter."
