Cardiff Central AM and Former Minister for Culture, Jenny Randerson AM today called on the Minister for Heritage to meet with S4C to discuss the issue of junk food advertising ahead of the creation of S4C's new children's channel.

New rules, have banned junk food advertising on TV programmes during programmes aimed at children but a loophole allows "brand advertising," allowing some junk-food advertising to reach children anyway.

Jenny Randerson called on the Minister to discuss with S4C the possibility of developing a voluntary agreement not to allow this loophole to be used on the new channel.

Jenny Randerson said: "This loophole is unacceptable, as it allows the spirit of the new rules to be broken. My Assembly Measure to improve nutrition in schools could easily be offset by irresponsible advertising and I would be very proud if S4C could lead the way in Britain by ruling this out.

"I hope the Minister will be able to discuss this with S4C and make a real difference to the health of Welsh children, and long-term improvements across the UK."

In his reply the minister said he would talk to S4C as it was an issues he was not aware of.
