Randerson calls on Minister to choose Cardiff as site for first nurse led walk-in centre4.24.52pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 9th Jan 2008
Following the news that the Health Minister is keen to press ahead with Wales' first nurse led walk-in centres, Cardiff AM and Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, Jenny Randerson has called on Edwina Hart to choose Cardiff as the site of one of the pilot projects. Jenny Randerson has today written to the Minister asking her to give serious consideration to Cardiff hosting one of the first centres. Jenny Randerson said: "I welcome the Minister's commitment to setting up walk-in centres in Wales. The Welsh Liberal Democrats have long called for this, and a Welsh Lib Dem motion in the previous Assembly set up a commitment for the Assembly Government to do this. "Cardiff Local Health Board has long been keen to develop a walk-in centre in Cardiff and I strongly believe that pressures at UHW A+E would be relieved immensely by a centre in Cardiff. "Cardiff welcomes approximately 80 000 people a day into the city for work and leisure and a walk-in centre would go a long way to alleviating some of the extra pressure that this causes for our health services. The Minister visited a centre in Bristol which has played a big part in dealing with many problems that are similar to those that Cardiff suffers from. "I have written to the Minister to ask her to strongly consider Cardiff as the first site in this programme."
