Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

Post Office Investment down the Drain

11.52.05am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 31st Oct 2007

Welsh Liberal Democrat Finance Spokesperson Jenny Randerson AM was today incensed by the potentially wasted investment in 3 post offices proposed for closure in Cardiff and the Glamorgan Valleys. The Post Offices were given funding from the Welsh Assembly Government'Post Office Development Fund yet now they are faced with closure. The Post Offices are:

Splott Road, Cardiff

Sanquahar Street, Cardiff

St. Mellons, Cardiff

Jenny said "Labour's triple standards are astonishing. The Lib Dem/Labour Government invested in Post Offices, The UK government tries to run Post Offices out of business, the Labour Assembly Government scraps the development fund and then the local Labour team petitions against their closure.

"Post Offices can be the focal point of communities and are a vital service for the elderly. The Government is continually taking services away from the Post Offices, how are they supposed to make a profit?

"I urge people to get involved in the consultation and air their views as well as sign our petition."

The Cardiff Liberal Democrats have launched a special website today at www.savecardiffspostoffices.co.uk to try and raise awareness to Labour's Post Office closure plans and to collect signatures against the plans.

Notes:
