JENNY RANDERSON WELCOMES CARDIFF'S PROPOSED LOCAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
2.01.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 18th Oct 2007
Jenny Randerson, Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, has welcomed Cardiff's proposed Local Development Plan - referred to as the Preferred Strategy - as a vision to a "fair green future".
Jenny said: "The fact that the proposed new dwelling requirement can be accommodated without a need to allocate a major greenfield site for housing is great news for everyone across the City. It is especially good news for residents living in the north-east who were facing potential extensions to the recent Pontprennau development and, of course, the repeated applications submitted to develop the Llanishen reservoir site.
"The proposals strengthen the protection of our reservoirs and the designation of the area to the north of the M4 at Caerphilly Mountain as a Greenbelt presents a wonderful opportunity to extend our linear parklands to their natural boundary by the creation of a Country Park.
"The Reservoirs are one of our biggest conservation and environmental assets, with their biodiversity and SSI status. Their construction is part of our historic environment and the character and quality of their surrounding landscape is unparalleled, encompassing as they do the open space surrounding the Nant Fawr river valley.
"The Reservoirs are an oasis in our urban environment and would be the sparkling crown in a Country Park".
