Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

DADDY CAN DIE FOR THE BRITISH ARMY BUT HIS CHILDREN CANNOT GET AN EDUCATION FOR FREE

2.01.49pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 12th Sep 2007

That is the plight of the children of the Ghurkha Regiment who have been redeployed to St Athan.

Jenny Randerson, Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, has today written to Jane Hutt, the Assembly's Minister for Education and the Assembly Member for St Athan, regarding this gross injustice.

Apparently, there are a number of youngsters in Cardiff who are beyond the statutory school age and would like to attend Coleg Glan Hafren and University. However, they are treated as international students because they do not have a British passport. They have a right of residence but have to have been resident here for 3 years to be eligible for grants etc.

Jenny said: "Such an anomaly should not exist and I have written to Jane Hutt asking what action she proposes taking to abolish this injustice".
