FirstGreat Western 'try' for more Trains (Jenny Randerson AM)
Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

FirstGreat Western 'try' for more Trains

10.16.16am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 23rd Aug 2007

Thousands of rugby world cup fans could still be stranded in Cardiff overnight due to the lack of train services after the World Cup quarter final match on Saturday 6th October

However, responding to a letter from Jenny Randerson, AM for Cardiff Central, First Great Western has revealed that they have requested to operate an extra three services to London leaving the ball firmly in Network Rail's court.

"I am glad that the pressure brought to bear by Jenny Willott and I has helped to make some progress towards getting more trains.

"As the Assembly Member for Cardiff Central I am obviously keen that Cardiff should be seen as the cutting edge European City that it is, flexible to the needs of major sporting events.

"I think additional trains at the end of the game are essential if we are to avoid the chaos and bad publicity which has followed similar events in the past when no extra trains have been provided."
