Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

Randerson Tables Statement of Opinion in Support of Kwiksave Workers

5.07.10pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 10th Jul 2007

Today Jenny Randerson AM challenged the Assembly Business Minister over the Kwiksave job losses. Staff in many branches have worked without wages for some time, assuming that they would eventually be paid.

Cardiff Central AM Jenny Randerson AM said "Kwiksave workers have been badly treated and misled while being encouraged to work without pay. I call on the Assembly Government to take every step within its power to ensure they receive justice and full compensation.

"If all the job losses had occurred in one location there would have been a ministerial statement, some of my constituents came to see me on Friday and they are facing dire consequences as they struggle to keep up mortgage repayments.

"Many of the workers have been refused jobseekers allowance because they have a letter saying they will be given redundancy pay but we now know they won't. They need quick and decisive help."
