Jenny Randerson, the Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for Cardiff Central went out with the green bag collection in Cathays today and called for tougher targets to ensure that 60% of household waste is recycled by the end of the next Assembly.

At 7am Jenny Randerson went out with the green bag team and picked up recyclable waste on the streets around Crwys Road for the morning.

Jenny Randerson AM commented, "Most people take for granted the hard work the bin men do, but I saw with my own eyes that they do a very difficult job day in day out, whether it rains or shines.

"When I was first elected in 1999, very few people had access to recycling in Cardiff .  In 2007 the Welsh Liberal Democrat controlled council has given most of Cardiff free recycling.  This is a major step forward for the capital city.

"I picked up bags from almost every house, so obviously the message is getting across that recycling is a positive step to reduce our impact on the planet.

" Welsh Liberal Democrats in every part of Wales share a commitment to green action. That's why we'll be fighting this election with a pledge to ensure that 60% of household waste is recycled by 2011. Unless we take the tough decisions now, Wales will not be able to play a leading role in the green revolution."
